The Secret of Slow

Slowing down has been a goal of mine this year.  I’ve been really into slow mornings. Waking up slow, taking the time to make tea, making a nutritious breakfast, showering, being fully present in my skin care routine and taking the time to sit and soak in the quiet before diving into the tasks of the day has been so rejuvinating for me.  Deciding whether or not I was willing to try trading my few extra moments of sleep for moments of calm as opposed to rushing around the house panicked about getting work on time and starting my day at a level 10 stress before 9am was pretty much a no brainer. Although I’ve loved it, it wasn’t the easiest of adjustements at first. There were some strategies I’ve had to figure out before I was able to make this into a successful routine of mine. Now that they’re in place I don’t struggle as much to reach that happy place of quiet in the mornings. The benefits are immeasurable and if you’re down, …

Let it Flow | Stream of Consciousness Writing Style

Have you ever just taken out a notebook, journal or even a piece of paper and just started writing? No direction in mind, no plan, you just started writing the first things to pop into your head. Did you know this specific kind of writing is called stream of consciousness writing?  Basically when you’re writing like this, you’re taking all thoughts and emotions and throwing them straight from your heart & mind onto paper; no filtering, no editing, just raw and unfiltered you. Stream of consciousness writing is an exercise that involves you getting a notebook, picking up a pen and just writing. You ignore punctuation, style, grammar, format… anything that stops you from writing. Verified Life Coach Generally when I journal, I tend to edit my thoughts. I don’t edit them drastically, but I do make sure to do a little polishing to make sure things sound logical. It sounds silly especially since I’m the only one who will be looking at my words, but nevertheless, I take my time to make sure my …

Spending Time Alone and Why it’s Important

Alone time is good for the soul.  Whether you’re naturally introverted or naturally extroverted, setting aside sometime for you to sit and enjoy your own presence is a very important part of existence.  For some, alone time is a refreshing and natural part of our lives. For others, the idea of spending time alone intentionally is actually quite intimidating. If that’s you, no worries! Right below is a guide of some small ways to set up intentional alone time and simple things you can do with that time.  What is Intentional Alone Time? Taking time to be alone intentionally doesn’t always mean simply not hanging out with friends. Intentional alone time can be any time where you are taking time away from socialization on purpose. Maybe that’s you removing yourself from social media for a set amount of time, stepping away from the group chat for a little bit or turning off snapchat notifications for a while. The goal is to have uninterrupted time with you and yourself.  How to Set up Intentional Alone Time …

Positive Self Talk Check

Are you proud of you? No really, can you look at yourself and say that you are genuinely proud of yourself? If you had asked me this a year ago I probably would have given you the ol’ stank face and wondered what in the world you were blabbering on about. So I totally understand if that’s what you’re doing to me right now. Did you know, that as much as you crave validation and positive and uplifting words from others, you also need that from you to yourself? I struggle with being mean to myself. It’s all verbal now, which still isn’t good, but it’s better than what it was. I’ll catch myself calling myself names, criticizing myself in the mirror or comparing myself when I don’t measure up in the ways I feel I should. I’ve been pretty good at catching myself and cutting it off lately but honestly that isn’t enough. I’ve recently started challenging myself to encourage myself. Some motivational and uplifting words from me to me in the morning when …

January Check Up | How are we doing?

Hey friends! How areeee you? We are a few weeks into the new year and I’m doing a little check in because, well, we’ve already been through a bit. Some of you are waiting to hear whether or not you’ll be going back into lockdown, some of you already are. Some of you, well I should say us (because I live here too) are in the US and chewing a fingernail or two as we approach inauguration day and some of us are dealing with the day to day stresses of being a human being. Period. Whatever you are dealing with, I want to encourage you and let you know that you are not dealing with it alone. One thing I’ve learned this past year is that we RARELY struggle alone. We may isolate ourselves and feel as though we are alone, but in reality there is always someone out there who understands or can empathize with how you are feeling. I think that’s been the biggest blessing of choosing to be authentic with my …

the joy of missing out Beating FOMO or the fear of missing out blog post by Nicole Eva

The Tea On: FOMO

FOMO or the fear of missing out, has been defined as (according to google) “Social anxiety that comes from believing that others may be having fun without you.” I agree with that definition, but I also believe FOMO can be about a little more than simply thinking that others are out enjoying their lives without you present. Over the last few months I think many of us have been experiencing a bit of FOMO anxiety related less to our friends but more to the state of our world. I live in America which means as you may know we just had an election, and if you’ve been paying attention then you know how that went…annnd how it’s currently going (deepest of sighs).During the time period leading up to the election results everyone…EVERYONE was on their phone, watching the news, looking at news articles, doing whatever they could to stay up to date so that when a result was called they would be the first to know. I would argue that that could also be a …

In the Midst | Life Updates and Life Lessons

I need a new journal. My old one is nowhere near filled to the brim like the ones before, but I feel like this new chapter in my life requires a completely new book to symbolize everything that has changed you know? There’s been a lot of change. Some really great and some I really wish hadn’t come about. Over the past 2 months I moved out of my home, moved into a new apartment, got married and am now in the process of adjusting to life as a wife alongside my new hubs. Crazy, right? We’ll sort through the details of all of that another time, but yes. Major changes and the good kind. Some other major changes, from the other side of the scale; my grandmother who lives in Barbados fell sick and passed away and right after my family dog of 16 years also fell sick and passed. Through all of these events, I’ve been learning some really important lessons. Lessons of how to be excited and happy about life while simultaneously …

30 compliments for girls that don't mention their bodies blog post by Nicole Eva promoting self love and self confidence in girls

30 Compliments for Girls That Don’t Mention Their Bodies

It’s mental health awareness month and I’m starting my side of the conversation with this little but significant post. I know that when we do it, there’s no harm intended, BUT we’ve got to stop focusing on the physical when talking to girls (boys too) about their positive attributes. This doesn’t mean you can’t tell your friends or daughters that they look nice…that’s not what I’m saying. Let them know they look nice, and also let them know of other ways they’re beautiful to you. This does a few things: One – It helps them to develop not only eyes that see those non physical attributes as equally if not more important than their physical ones, but it also helps them to affirm their strengths in other ways. Two – It helps you as a person to become conscious of the way you see people. It helps you to develop the skill to see those around you beyond their physical presentation. I think we need more of that in todays world. And that’s all I’m …

Why I Stopped Trying to “Get in Shape”

Growing up I never thought about weight. I was never focused on that. I was a skinny kid who honestly and truly couldn’t care less about what I looked like. This carried into high school, where I was a track athlete, a competitive swimmer and an all around active human with a high metabolism. I could wear whatever I wanted and never worried about if something would make me “look fat”…because it wouldn’t. Fast forward to the college years. And no, it wasn’t the freshman 15 that got to me. It was actually everything that happened after college. The slow down of activity, long hours of sedentary work and the general stress that came along with adulthood. Put those factors together along with the slowing down of my metabolism and there you have it. I gained weight; and a bit of it. Now, it wasn’t a super dramatic increase, but it was enough to realize that I had gone from being at a place where I used to be so unconcerned about clothes fitting and …

keeping your mental wellness in check during stressful times

Keeping Your Mental Wellness in Check during Stressful Times

It’s been an interesting few weeks hasn’t it? The word normal is kinda obsolete at the moment as our reality seems to shift day by day. It can be for some quite unnerving. I know for me I have moments where I am totally fine and handling life like a champ, and then I have moments where I’d like to come out of bed only when life is back to what I’ve always known it to be. During times like these, its really important to check in with yourself and keep your mental wellness in check. My latest youtube video discusses how I’ve been coping and what I’ve started doing in order to keep on top of my mental wellness. It took me a little while to actually post it since I get a little transparent in this video, but AUTHENTICITY REMEMBER? (no idea what this means? here’s the blog post for clarification). Interested? Check it out! Thanks for watching guys! I keep forgetting to share my videos with you,. but I post quite a …
