So…People had a lot to say about my mental health post.

To say I was anything but surprised on the amount of feedback I got from my latest post would be lying. People loved it. It’s crazy because I was so hesitant to talk about this topic for many reasons, but I’m glad I did. There’s something about the human condition that uses the struggles that we all face to connect us. It gives us a community of people who relate to the fact that we all have something we’re going through. We’re all warriors earning our badges throughout this life and when we realize that we can shift the focus from ourselves and instead support each other. I think that’s pretty amazing. I made a video addressing the feedback I received. It’s on YouTube and you can find it by clicking here. I have a bunch of other videos on YouTube as well, but this is definitely one I’m proud of simply due to the amount of effort it took for a quick “thanks for loving on me” post. I’m also pretty proud of this …

Practically in Love 1:2

Hey Friends! Welcome to my first ever series! In brief, this series is about learning how to practically love the people around us. If you want more details about this series, check out my previous introductory post here. This week we’re going to focus on practically loving others by showing respect. I wasn’t going to start with respect simply because it seems so basic. We learned about respect way back in the beginning in elementary school and as children learning how to properly interact with adults. So I figured it could be a little too simplistic and foundational as a start…but then I thought about that word I just used; foundational. Foundations are things we build on. You wouldn’t build a house without first making sure it had a strong foundation, why? Because it wouldn’t stand. We can’t talk about love without talking about respect. It’s just that simple. Over time we have decided that we get to determine whether another person is worthy of respect. We make them earn it from us. We create …

Camera Confidence

I’m a blogger…obviously. That’s why you’re here. An aspect of blogging that I didn’t consider when I originally started was the importance of photography within your blog. Now, not everyone needs top-notch photography on their blog. It all depends on what exactly you are trying to brand. If you are branding your writing only, let’s say a poetry or creative writing, then photos may not be a priority of yours. If you’re branding yourself, your style, or a product of yours, great photography can place you on the same level as the top bloggers and get you the traffic that you need to create a bigger name for yourself. When I realized the importance of this for myself, since I am a blogger who is trying to brand herself, I became slightly overwhelmed for two reasons: I didn’t have access to photos that were any better than my shaky hand iPhone 6 photos, and I was not anywhere near comfortable being in front of a camera for an extended period of time. Luckily, I know …

Budget Friendly Date Ideas

We’ve all (or most of us) during our singleness have fantasized over the idea of being in a relationship. We’ve thought about date nights and made mental notes of places that would be super romantic to go with your significant other. Or, maybe that’s just me. I would always take small notes in my mind of places that could be fun to adventure with  someone I was dating; things that would be cool to try or places that would be cool to travel to. In my mind tho, the one thing I never considered was price. And why would I? Calculating the price of a romantic adventure completely takes the romance out of the adventure….right? In the moment, sure. But in reality considering your significant others finances (and your own) could be the most romantic thing you could do. In my perspective of dating, I’m aspiring to be with my person forever. That means that I’m not simply here to do extravagant fun things right now to document on Instagram (although those things are definitely …

You Asked: How to Spend Time with God Throughout Your Day

Hey Friends! Todays topic is one that was actually sent to me by one of you. I got a few requests as a result of a post I put out on twitter, but I really wanted to talk about this one first because its something that I am personally challenged with at this particular time in my life. Todays topic: How to spend time with God throughout your day. Now, those of you who identify yourselves as christians most likely know that you should be making time for God daily, if you didn’t, now you do. Most of us are pretty good at that. We wake up in the morning and open up our bible app. We wait for that welcome message at the top of our screen and for our daily streak number to register that yes, I have opened my bible app for the 147th time in a row (or maybe you’re like me and your on day 15…again…). Some of you may even end your day with some God time, praying and …

Too Comfortable…

As some of you may already know from previous posts, my family and I are in celebration mode. We’re moving! The new home is bigger than what we’ve got now, spacious enough for each person to have their own breathing room, and has a few items from our dream home wish list that makes this move a little bit sweeter like wooden floors and multiple bathrooms (can we get an AAY-MENN). This past Thursday, I was assigned the task of staying at the house overnight because we had a day of deliveries scheduled starting from 8 in the morning. Makes sense right? Just stay at the new home and get a few extra minutes of sleep as opposed to being at the apartment and having to wake up earlier to be at the house in time. I was pretty excited. I already had a mattress, bedding, clothes, and a few other things so in my mind I was set. I got out of work around 4:00 and headed to the apartment to relax for a bit …

Let’s Chat: Weakness

Weakness. What a simple but dirty sounding word. Heads of companies ask you to list yours during job interviews, therapists want you to talk about them, and lets face it, even though you may try not to, there’s a slight chance you see them glaring back at you when you look at yourself in the mirror after a rough day. This week is far from over, but boy has it been a doozy. Do people say that anymore? I don’t know. But yea. It has been one of those weeks where my weaknesses, my vulnerabilities have come out and placed themselves smack dab in the middle of my day-to-day and beat me up a little. The result: I’m unfocused. Unmotivated. Tempted to let my day to day responsibilities slide to the bottom of my priority list because honestly, I just want to dwell in the way that I am feeling and let that be all that there is right now. I’m reacting. Everything feels like chaos and I can’t really figure out how to clean …

How to “Treat Yo Self” when you can’t afford to “Treat Yo Self”

We live in such a fast paced world. There are so many tasks and responsibilities that all need to be taken care of by a certain time and sometimes, we run out of just that. Time. To avoid missing out on the crucial things, we prioritize what needs to be done when. It can be a bit chaotic. I live off of lists. I haven’t always been this way, but thanks to my own personal collection of due dates, appointments, social commitments and everything else, I have found that this just might be the best way to do it. Yes mom, you were right. There is definitly a benefit to a list. It keeps you organized and accountable and shows you just how busy you are. If I take a quick look back at the list I have set up for this past week alone I can visually understand why I feel like I’m made of static electricity right now. I’ve had events to plan, things to order, people to contact and contact again, schedules …

Messy, but lovely.

I love that word. Lovely. It’s actually one of my favorite words. That’s an interesting word to attach oneself to, isn’t it? I used to use variations of this word throughout all of my social media accounts. Actually, up until recently, the name of this blog was “ColorMeLovelyy”. The name was a branch off of the name of my Instagram page, Staylovelyy. It’s a simple command to me from myself reminding myself to stay lovely. Life is…weird. As you grow older you see things that can and do change the way you see the world around you. You hear about the awful things happening all over the world and you experience awful things in your own life that have the potential to leave you scarred and a bit hesitant to embrace the world as openly as you did when you were younger. Growing up definitely did some of those things to me. I was the one hesitant to open myself up to anything or anyone new in fear of being hurt or experiencing something unpleasant. …

Cheers to 2018!

“Happy New Year!!!” We made it! 2017 is over. For some of you, 2017 was a year of stress, drama, sadness, struggle and turmoil. For others 2017 was a slow year, nothing significantly good or bad happened. You just kind of trudged along. For another bunch of you 2017 was a year of growth, prosperity, friendships & love. For me, 2017 was a very interesting combination of all of these things. I found family in friendships and learned what it really means to love and be loved. I grew in ways that I never thought would be possible. I did things that scared me, chased after my dreams and found contentment in the moments of quiet. I  lost friends I couldn’t imagine my life without…and survived. I lost a friend to suicide and embraced the grieving that came with instead of closing myself off to those emotions. I  became unshakable in my relationship with Christ and learned the true meaning of perseverance. I  said yes to adventures I didn’t plan for….many times. I did …
