Featured Spaces: The Office

I love love love an organized workspace. It helps me to think and leaves my creative flow unhindered. I am not always the most organized individual, especially if you catch me right in the middle of a creative explosion or after a stressful work week. During the in-between moments however, I like to keep my workspace crisp, neat and inspiring. I don’t have a desk in my apartment so I use my desk at work as my creative canvas.  So, how do I  keep my desk clutter free, inspiring and functional all at the same time? It’s actually not as hard as you’d think. Many people assume you need to sacrifice aesthetics for function and vice versa, but thats not the case. They can go hand in hand and do so beautifully.   I’m not one for named themes so you’ll never find me with a nautical styled bathroom or a cupcake themed kitchen. What you may find however is that I  do like to follow a color scheme. It makes my eyes happy. My …

How to “Treat Yo Self” when you can’t afford to “Treat Yo Self”

We live in such a fast paced world. There are so many tasks and responsibilities that all need to be taken care of by a certain time and sometimes, we run out of just that. Time. To avoid missing out on the crucial things, we prioritize what needs to be done when. It can be a bit chaotic. I live off of lists. I haven’t always been this way, but thanks to my own personal collection of due dates, appointments, social commitments and everything else, I have found that this just might be the best way to do it. Yes mom, you were right. There is definitly a benefit to a list. It keeps you organized and accountable and shows you just how busy you are. If I take a quick look back at the list I have set up for this past week alone I can visually understand why I feel like I’m made of static electricity right now. I’ve had events to plan, things to order, people to contact and contact again, schedules …

Goaaaaaaaaal(s)

We all know how important setting goals is to personal growth and development. If you’ve ever set a goal, you know that setting a goal is the easy part. It’s the sticking to it that gives us a little bit of a challenge. Now, I don’t struggle with sticking to goals because I lack motivation or anything like that. Sometimes sticking to a timetable of what to do, when to begin doing and when to have it done can be a bit overwhelming. Confession: I am a perfectionist…well…a recovering one. So those things (having a specific time to achieve something) gives me a little bit of anxiety. But. There are ways to set goals that make setting those goals and sticking to them a tad bit easier and even a little exciting. I’ve started applying these to my life and I’ve been able to set goals, stick to them and actually enjoy the process and now I want to share them with you in 3 steps. Make them practical- Nothing ruins the momentum of a …

5 Tips for Getting Out of That Creative Slump

I’m a creative, or so I call myself. This means that I enjoy creative pursuits. Whether that involves finding inspiration in a museum, flipping through a design magazine or getting a scene out of my head and in watercolor. I enjoy things that inspire me to create. But, as much as I enjoy these things, life has a way of…well…getting in the way. I work six days a week. I get Fridays off but spend most of that day doing my laundry, cleaning my home and planning for the girls meeting that I lead later that evening. Every once in a while I get that creative bug and take off on one of my ventures. But, about halfway through (or…less than half) I hit a wall. I became frustrated with this pattern of ‘non creativity’ and decided I would combat it with everything I’ve got. Which at that moment was nothing. Now, months later, I feel that I have a couple of things that have proven themselves to be effective ways of getting those creative …
