Video Journaling : Brilliant or Cringe

There’s a “new” trend being talked about within the wellness spaces as of late. I say new with the quotes because although it’s not a new concept, it’s becoming popularized within a new niche. Video journaling, the act of setting up a camera, usually one on your phone and talking to yourself about yourself has been gaining a bit of traction as a great way to connect with yourself, potentially more so than paper journaling. In a video journal you may discuss your day, your feelings about something that happened or someone you encountered. You may talk about an issue you are having or something that makes you excited, there are no rules and no limits, you are simply documenting yourself for yourself. I am of the general understanding that the intention behind video journaling is to be able to not only express yourself, but to be able to go back at a point in time and reevaluate your video. Maybe check and see if things have changed, if you still share the same views, …

Keeping Self-Care Simple

A big thing I find myself needing to remind myself of lately has been how truly simple it really can be to practice self-care. I think today we make it complicated. There are so many different routines and products that end up being a part of these routines promoted to us by different influencers and businesses that we start to believe that it’s not really self-care if it doesn’t involve the latest face mask, body oil or facial tool. We’ve created, and fallen into a kind of “consumerism” version of self-care. A brand of self-care where we require more and more things to do to create an image of being cared for instead of actually caring for ourselves. I’m here to tell you gently that it doesn’t have to be this way. Now, there’s nothing wrong with making purchases and building an arsenal of things to help you with your self-care journey, but these things aren’t necessary for self-care, that’s the point I’m making today. What Simple Self-Care is not Simple self care is not …

Is self care selfish self care or selfish images of selfceare

Self-Care or Self-ish?

Is self care selfish? This is a question that has plagued me whenever people have asked me what my passions revolve around. I’ve said things like wellness, and health and people as a response, which is true. But I’m also passionate about self care, but aware of how others seem to interpret it. It’s taken me a while to figure out my thoughts on this, and maybe you have also asked yourself this question and come to your own answers, maybe ours are the same, and maybe they’re very different. I guess we shall see. My answer: Self care is not selfish. It’s actually the complete opposite, but we’ll get to that in a second. What is selfish though, is burnout. Working yourself all the way until you no longer have life in your bones for anything or anyone around you is not only selfish, but I’ll take it a step further and call prideful. To understand why burnout is selfish, you have to understand how we get there. The Miriam Websters definition of burnout …

Late 20’s Style Look Book

It’s December. It’s cold outside and we’re quarantined so there’s kind of a lot of sitting around happening lately. I mean stuffs getting done, but I don’t exactly look cute while doing it. I was scrolling though my Pinterest fashion boards the other day and looked at my pinned clothing choices, then looked back at my current clothing choices. To be honest it made me laugh, ONLY because the difference was drastic. I can’t be the only woman with an ideal look, that looks…nothing like what they currently wear right? I mean, I’m not judging myself (although it may sound like it), currently i’m rocking a grey crewneck sweatshirt, thick grey mens sweat pants and sock slippers and ya girl is warm and happy. BUT, if money was not something I needed to be thinking about, and I actually had places to go, here are some of the things I would love to wear. We’ll call this my ideal late 20s look book. Around the house My around the house look would consist of comfy …

8 Air Bnb Locations I Would Visit Right Now

Every once in a while, at least once a year, I get this itch to travel. This year when the itch showed up it was met with an intensity like never before. Probably due to the fact that we cannot currently travel at the moment. To scratch this itch (and sort of torture myself I guess) I decided to re-download my AirBnB app. If I couldn’t physically travel, I was going to dream of travel. Not only was I going to dream, but I was going to favorite these locations and make a plan to get to at least one of the locations on my list. Before I started searching I decided right off of the bat that I didn’t want to look at the typical vacation destinations. If these were going to be dreamworthy they needed to be something different, something exciting. Something of fictional romance novels. You know, the ones that you read while snuggled up in more blankets than you need, with a cup of tea and the tv on that Yule …

Reflections

I’ve been spending the last few days/weeks/month reflecting on this season of life. ⁣ It’s been such a wild ride and at many points I’ve been like “aight God let me off these people are whacked”. But one of my prayers lately has been to not lose track of the beauty in the midst of the chaos, and as a result I’ve almost grown to find more peace in the crazy than I do in the mundane. ⁣ I find that people love louder in the crazy. People seek joy in the small things in the crazy. Artists create powerfully in the crazy. And me, I dance harder and sing louder in the crazy (if you see me dancing in my car mind yo business 🙂). ⁣ All in all, yea it’s chaos and it pretty much feels like the world is imploding at times, but there’s still beauty here. You may just have to squint a little bit while looking for it 🤎 Xx Nicole Eva

how to reset your sleep schedule, how to reset your sleep schedule after corona, Covid-19,

How to Reset Your Sleep Schedule in 5 Steps

I don’t know about you, but my sleep schedule over the last month and a half has gone from decent to bad to “sleep where???” This isn’t because I don’t value sleep by the way. I love sleep! BUT sleep doesn’t love me right now and it’s 100% my fault.  With the talk of opening businesses back up comes the talk of employees going back to work. Some of you will be returning to work after working from home. Some of you will be hitting the job market hunting for jobs that are now looking for new hires. Either way we are going to be transitioning from out of the office to back in the office and a good night’s sleep is going to be a requirement.  My current sleep schedule is: In bed by 12:30, scroll social media “trying to fall asleep” until 2:30, try to fall asleep without social media for a half-hour, and actually fall asleep between 3-4:00. It’s trash. I need a total sleep schedule reset if I am going to …

How to feel beautiful every day cover art

How to Feel Beautiful

You’re beautiful my friend. Why? Because you’re you. It’s really that simple. We don’t always feel that way though, do we? Answer: No, no we do not. We all have days where we don’t feel our best, days where we feel out of sorts and out of place. It’s usually on those days that I’ll find myself being pretty harsh verbally with myself. I used to be a pro at picking myself apart and leaving myself feeling like total garbage. Within the last year though, I stopped and started doing something else instead. That something else resulted in a lot less nitpicking, and more acceptance, encouragement and even celebration from me to me. Here are some things you can do everyday to feel like the beauty you are! Smile at Yourself Okay, I know this one sounds weird, but what if I told you it was backed by science. When you smile, the contractions of your muscles tell your brain that you’re happy. When your brain gets those happy signals it releases chemicals that make …
