Don’t Run. Fight. Be Brave.

Transparency post. I’m never as brave as I look. I have to remind myself constantly that it’s okay to be fearful, but that fearfulness is not an exscuse for stagnancy. My tendency when things catch me off guard, stress my beyond comprehension or scare me is to hide or run away from the challenge. By hide, I don’t mean physically (at first), but I more so hide emotionally. I shut myself off to feelings and can become very clinical in my approach in an attempt to patch it up and remove it from my sight. I become a “1) what’s the problem 2) what’s the solution” type of person. People who aren’t familiar with me and how I handle stress (which is 98% of the population) will often celebrate this side of me because it’s effective. I get praised for having a small to non existent stress response or being able to maintain my cool under insane amounts of pressure, but inside I fully well know that what I’ve done on the inside to get …

Practically in Love 1:2

Hey Friends! Welcome to my first ever series! In brief, this series is about learning how to practically love the people around us. If you want more details about this series, check out my previous introductory post here. This week we’re going to focus on practically loving others by showing respect. I wasn’t going to start with respect simply because it seems so basic. We learned about respect way back in the beginning in elementary school and as children learning how to properly interact with adults. So I figured it could be a little too simplistic and foundational as a start…but then I thought about that word I just used; foundational. Foundations are things we build on. You wouldn’t build a house without first making sure it had a strong foundation, why? Because it wouldn’t stand. We can’t talk about love without talking about respect. It’s just that simple. Over time we have decided that we get to determine whether another person is worthy of respect. We make them earn it from us. We create …

Budget Friendly Date Ideas

We’ve all (or most of us) during our singleness have fantasized over the idea of being in a relationship. We’ve thought about date nights and made mental notes of places that would be super romantic to go with your significant other. Or, maybe that’s just me. I would always take small notes in my mind of places that could be fun to adventure with  someone I was dating; things that would be cool to try or places that would be cool to travel to. In my mind tho, the one thing I never considered was price. And why would I? Calculating the price of a romantic adventure completely takes the romance out of the adventure….right? In the moment, sure. But in reality considering your significant others finances (and your own) could be the most romantic thing you could do. In my perspective of dating, I’m aspiring to be with my person forever. That means that I’m not simply here to do extravagant fun things right now to document on Instagram (although those things are definitely …

Thoughts on Singleness

Alright ladies. I am about to dive into a topic that I have heard discussed (and been a part of discussions about) for the majority of my young adult and teen life. Let’s talk about being single. First and foremost I am going to say something profound. Something that you may find controversial but bear with me, are you ready? Open your notes app….okay here it is: Your singleness is not a curse. Did you read that? Did you understand it? Read it once more to make sure. Okay. A little dramatic? Yea, maybe, but I do feel that this is something that needs to be repeated again and again and again and yes….again. The amount of time that I spend convincing women of all ages that singleness is actually not a documented disease and that people can actually survive and maybe…wait for it…thrive in their singleness astounds me. It astounds me, but I also understand it. Because I understand it is why I want to write about it. I’ve wanted to write about this …

Blessed

Hey Guys! So sorry it has been so long between posts. It has been such a crazy crazy end of the month (April) and unfortunately, the crazy hasn’t stopped yet. My whole family got the flu, then when I was supposed to be traveling to Atlanta I ended up home with the stomach flu. After that we moved (YAY) and have been settling in to our new home. Moving homes is way more complex as an adult than as a child haha. Still exciting, just a bit more complicated. And to top it all off this past weekend I got into my first ever car accident and it was a biggie. My car is a total wreck and my brain and body are still trying to put the pieces together as I recover physically (I’m a little beat up, but nothing too crazy) but mainly emotionally. This post isn’t about my accident tho, this post is about this woman I had the pleasure of celebrating a few days ago. The woman in the middle of my …

Too Comfortable…

As some of you may already know from previous posts, my family and I are in celebration mode. We’re moving! The new home is bigger than what we’ve got now, spacious enough for each person to have their own breathing room, and has a few items from our dream home wish list that makes this move a little bit sweeter like wooden floors and multiple bathrooms (can we get an AAY-MENN). This past Thursday, I was assigned the task of staying at the house overnight because we had a day of deliveries scheduled starting from 8 in the morning. Makes sense right? Just stay at the new home and get a few extra minutes of sleep as opposed to being at the apartment and having to wake up earlier to be at the house in time. I was pretty excited. I already had a mattress, bedding, clothes, and a few other things so in my mind I was set. I got out of work around 4:00 and headed to the apartment to relax for a bit …

Let’s Chat: Weakness

Weakness. What a simple but dirty sounding word. Heads of companies ask you to list yours during job interviews, therapists want you to talk about them, and lets face it, even though you may try not to, there’s a slight chance you see them glaring back at you when you look at yourself in the mirror after a rough day. This week is far from over, but boy has it been a doozy. Do people say that anymore? I don’t know. But yea. It has been one of those weeks where my weaknesses, my vulnerabilities have come out and placed themselves smack dab in the middle of my day-to-day and beat me up a little. The result: I’m unfocused. Unmotivated. Tempted to let my day to day responsibilities slide to the bottom of my priority list because honestly, I just want to dwell in the way that I am feeling and let that be all that there is right now. I’m reacting. Everything feels like chaos and I can’t really figure out how to clean …

10 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Hey friends! It’s the weekend, woo! Finally. This weekend is particularly strange for me as it’s the first time in a long time that I get to break the pattern of my usual weekend activities (working) and exchange it for fun (we’re gonna pretend I didn’t bring my laptop with me with the intention of stalking my job all weekend). It’s bachelorette party weekend in my friend group and we are in the city enjoying the sights and each other’s company.   Not working on a weekend for me is actually a big deal. Not only because I am always and I mean always doing it. But mainly because I’m a recovering control freak…I really like to be in control of my environments and work is an environment that is labeled as mine therefore I need to be in total control of it at all times. Pro tip: wanting to be in control of an environment 24/7 doesn’t mean that you will actually be in control of that environment ever. Needless to say, this weekend …
