Let it Flow | Stream of Consciousness Writing Style

Have you ever just taken out a notebook, journal or even a piece of paper and just started writing? No direction in mind, no plan, you just started writing the first things to pop into your head. Did you know this specific kind of writing is called stream of consciousness writing?  Basically when you’re writing like this, you’re taking all thoughts and emotions and throwing them straight from your heart & mind onto paper; no filtering, no editing, just raw and unfiltered you. Stream of consciousness writing is an exercise that involves you getting a notebook, picking up a pen and just writing. In the Midst | Life Updates and Life Lessons

I need a new journal. My old one is nowhere near filled to the brim like the ones before, but I feel like this new chapter in my life requires a completely new book to symbolize everything that has changed you know? There’s been a lot of change. Some really great and some I really wish hadn’t come about. Over the past 2 months I moved out of my home, moved into a new apartment, got married and am now in the process of adjusting to life as a wife alongside my new hubs. Crazy, right? We’ll sort through the details of all of that another time, but yes. Major changes and the good kind. Some other major changes, from the other side of the scale; my grandmother who lives in Barbados fell sick and passed away and right after my family dog of 16 years also fell sick and passed. Validation

Validation: The recognition or affirmation that a person or their feelings or opinions are valid or worthwhile. As people we love to be validated. We love to know that someone out there thinks that we matter. We love validation in our work places. We want the boss to know that they need us, we want our co workers to know that we’re adding benefit to the workplace. We love validation in our schools. We want our teachers to think we’re intelligent. We want to be told “Great job!” on our papers or projects, or get excellent grades so that we avoid disapproval from those around us. We crave validation in our friend groups. We want our friends to value us. We hurt when a friend doesn’t talk to us for a few days or when our snap streak is broken. Friday Findings

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope this week has been a good one! This week for me has been challenging, but the good kind. I’ve been challenged to do things that made me uncomfortable, things that I felt incredibly unprepared for and to shine a light on a side of me that I prefer to keep hidden for the sake of a friend. Specifics? They’re coming. So, what exactly is this “Friday Findings”? It’s a section of my blog where I will  update you weekly on things I want to talk about from the past week. Category: lessons learned. Lets get started! This week God has been teaching me something. What? I’m not quite sure yet. But twice this week I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to get quite uncomfortable and talk about things I normally wouldn’t for the sake of encouragement and transparency. It was pretty cool. Journaling

Writing for me is an outlet. It always has been. There are journals with my name on them in the archives of my home from the time I was 6 years old. There are writings about going to the museum, the zoo, the library. Stories about events that happened between my brother and I and funny things between my parents. I wrote about what I wanted to be when I grew up and analyzed my place in the world with scrawly handwriting and illustrations. For me, using a pen and paper as a means to process the happenings of a day or sort through my emotions is simply second nature. As mentioned briefly in my previous post Lets Chat: Teenagers, I’ve kept journals throughout my adolescent years to keep me sane…or highlight my insanity…one or the other.
