Is self care selfish self care or selfish images of selfceare

Self-Care or Self-ish?

Is self care selfish? This is a question that has plagued me whenever people have asked me what my passions revolve around. I’ve said things like wellness, and health and people as a response, which is true. But I’m also passionate about self care, but aware of how others seem to interpret it. It’s taken me a while to figure out my thoughts on this, and maybe you have also asked yourself this question and come to your own answers, maybe ours are the same, and maybe they’re very different. I guess we shall see. My answer: Self care is not selfish. It’s actually the complete opposite, but we’ll get to that in a second. What is selfish though, is burnout. Working yourself all the way until you no longer have life in your bones for anything or anyone around you is not only selfish, but I’ll take it a step further and call prideful. To understand why burnout is selfish, you have to understand how we get there. The Miriam Websters definition of burnout …

Reflections

I’ve been spending the last few days/weeks/month reflecting on this season of life. ⁣ It’s been such a wild ride and at many points I’ve been like “aight God let me off these people are whacked”. But one of my prayers lately has been to not lose track of the beauty in the midst of the chaos, and as a result I’ve almost grown to find more peace in the crazy than I do in the mundane. ⁣ I find that people love louder in the crazy. People seek joy in the small things in the crazy. Artists create powerfully in the crazy. And me, I dance harder and sing louder in the crazy (if you see me dancing in my car mind yo business 🙂). ⁣ All in all, yea it’s chaos and it pretty much feels like the world is imploding at times, but there’s still beauty here. You may just have to squint a little bit while looking for it 🤎 Xx Nicole Eva

3..2..1.. It’s Here

Hi Friends! I just wanted to pop in and say that I’ve finally launched my YouTube channel!! I’ll still be here and blogging (because writing is my favorite thing) but once a month (eventually more) I want to have a space where I talk, in person about a topic. It may be something we’ve talked about here on the blog, or something I’ve seen or something going on in my life that I want to share. Either way, I’d love for you guys to check it out! Are any of you on YouTube? Drop your channels below and I’ll check you out! Have any of you had an interest in getting on YouTube? What’s stopping you? Let’s chat below!   Thanks for stopping by!

Don’t Run. Fight. Be Brave.

Transparency post. I’m never as brave as I look. I have to remind myself constantly that it’s okay to be fearful, but that fearfulness is not an exscuse for stagnancy. My tendency when things catch me off guard, stress my beyond comprehension or scare me is to hide or run away from the challenge. By hide, I don’t mean physically (at first), but I more so hide emotionally. I shut myself off to feelings and can become very clinical in my approach in an attempt to patch it up and remove it from my sight. I become a “1) what’s the problem 2) what’s the solution” type of person. People who aren’t familiar with me and how I handle stress (which is 98% of the population) will often celebrate this side of me because it’s effective. I get praised for having a small to non existent stress response or being able to maintain my cool under insane amounts of pressure, but inside I fully well know that what I’ve done on the inside to get …

Something Different

Hey friends! First of all I want to say thank you for the response to my recent post 4 months in. I deliberately stay away from sharing too many details of my actual life online simply because that can open one up to a lot of things, many of those things being negative things. You all have been so kind and lovely and supportive and it warmed my heart, so thanks again for being the greatest little crew. You guys rock! Now, for the news. I’ve been working pretty hard on something and I wanted to share it with you guys. I’ve been exploring the realm of vlogging editing and all of that jazz and wanted to share it with you all. This isn’t the whole thing, just a little teaser to whats on its way but feel free to check it out below:   The final video should be uploaded tonight or tomorrow, so keep an eye out! It’ll be posted on My Channel. Thanks AGAIN for being so amazing!

Practically in Love 1:2

Hey Friends! Welcome to my first ever series! In brief, this series is about learning how to practically love the people around us. If you want more details about this series, check out my previous introductory post here. This week we’re going to focus on practically loving others by showing respect. I wasn’t going to start with respect simply because it seems so basic. We learned about respect way back in the beginning in elementary school and as children learning how to properly interact with adults. So I figured it could be a little too simplistic and foundational as a start…but then I thought about that word I just used; foundational. Foundations are things we build on. You wouldn’t build a house without first making sure it had a strong foundation, why? Because it wouldn’t stand. We can’t talk about love without talking about respect. It’s just that simple. Over time we have decided that we get to determine whether another person is worthy of respect. We make them earn it from us. We create …

Camera Confidence

I’m a blogger…obviously. That’s why you’re here. An aspect of blogging that I didn’t consider when I originally started was the importance of photography within your blog. Now, not everyone needs top-notch photography on their blog. It all depends on what exactly you are trying to brand. If you are branding your writing only, let’s say a poetry or creative writing, then photos may not be a priority of yours. If you’re branding yourself, your style, or a product of yours, great photography can place you on the same level as the top bloggers and get you the traffic that you need to create a bigger name for yourself. When I realized the importance of this for myself, since I am a blogger who is trying to brand herself, I became slightly overwhelmed for two reasons: I didn’t have access to photos that were any better than my shaky hand iPhone 6 photos, and I was not anywhere near comfortable being in front of a camera for an extended period of time. Luckily, I know …

Friday Findings

Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope this week has been a good one! This week for me has been challenging, but the good kind. I’ve been challenged to do things that made me uncomfortable, things that I felt incredibly unprepared for and to shine a light on a side of me that I prefer to keep hidden for the sake of a friend. Specifics? They’re coming. So, what exactly is this “Friday Findings”? It’s a section of my blog where I will  update you weekly on things I want to talk about from the past week. Category: lessons learned. Lets get started! This week God has been teaching me something. What? I’m not quite sure yet. But twice this week I’ve been in situations where I’ve had to get quite uncomfortable and talk about things I normally wouldn’t for the sake of encouragement and transparency. It was pretty cool. I don’t normally jump for opportunities like that because I usually walk away from them feeling pretty exposed and vulnerable. This time was no different. In …

Musical Musings

So, I’ve decided to make this a thing. You may have seen my last musical musings post featuring Sabrina Claudio (if not you should go ahead and click that link right there). In my mind that was going to be a one time thing, but as life would have it I have found a new musical love and I want to share it with you guys. This song is called Naked by Ella Mai. It was released in 2017 but I found it thanks again to my best bud Spotify. The lyrics alone are phenomenal, of course, but the music is so slow and purposeful. As Ella sings you can hear the natural tones of her voice, she’s not trying too hard, she’s more concerned about making sure we feel the song as she does (at least, that’s my interpretation), and it works. There are a couple of choice words in this song but I love it regardless. I’m actually pretty okay with purposeful profanity in art. To me it’s no different from nudity in …

Blessed

Hey Guys! So sorry it has been so long between posts. It has been such a crazy crazy end of the month (April) and unfortunately, the crazy hasn’t stopped yet. My whole family got the flu, then when I was supposed to be traveling to Atlanta I ended up home with the stomach flu. After that we moved (YAY) and have been settling in to our new home. Moving homes is way more complex as an adult than as a child haha. Still exciting, just a bit more complicated. And to top it all off this past weekend I got into my first ever car accident and it was a biggie. My car is a total wreck and my brain and body are still trying to put the pieces together as I recover physically (I’m a little beat up, but nothing too crazy) but mainly emotionally. This post isn’t about my accident tho, this post is about this woman I had the pleasure of celebrating a few days ago. The woman in the middle of my …
