Don’t Run. Fight. Be Brave.

Transparency post. I’m never as brave as I look. I have to remind myself constantly that it’s okay to be fearful, but that fearfulness is not an exscuse for stagnancy. My tendency when things catch me off guard, stress my beyond comprehension or scare me is to hide or run away from the challenge. By hide, I don’t mean physically (at first), but I more so hide emotionally. I shut myself off to feelings and can become very clinical in my approach in an attempt to patch it up and remove it from my sight. I become a “1) what’s the problem 2) what’s the solution” type of person. People who aren’t familiar with me and how I handle stress (which is 98% of the population) will often celebrate this side of me because it’s effective. I get praised for having a small to non existent stress response or being able to maintain my cool under insane amounts of pressure, but inside I fully well know that what I’ve done on the inside to get …

Blessed

Hey Guys! So sorry it has been so long between posts. It has been such a crazy crazy end of the month (April) and unfortunately, the crazy hasn’t stopped yet. My whole family got the flu, then when I was supposed to be traveling to Atlanta I ended up home with the stomach flu. After that we moved (YAY) and have been settling in to our new home. Moving homes is way more complex as an adult than as a child haha. Still exciting, just a bit more complicated. And to top it all off this past weekend I got into my first ever car accident and it was a biggie. My car is a total wreck and my brain and body are still trying to put the pieces together as I recover physically (I’m a little beat up, but nothing too crazy) but mainly emotionally. This post isn’t about my accident tho, this post is about this woman I had the pleasure of celebrating a few days ago. The woman in the middle of my …

Too Comfortable…

As some of you may already know from previous posts, my family and I are in celebration mode. We’re moving! The new home is bigger than what we’ve got now, spacious enough for each person to have their own breathing room, and has a few items from our dream home wish list that makes this move a little bit sweeter like wooden floors and multiple bathrooms (can we get an AAY-MENN). This past Thursday, I was assigned the task of staying at the house overnight because we had a day of deliveries scheduled starting from 8 in the morning. Makes sense right? Just stay at the new home and get a few extra minutes of sleep as opposed to being at the apartment and having to wake up earlier to be at the house in time. I was pretty excited. I already had a mattress, bedding, clothes, and a few other things so in my mind I was set. I got out of work around 4:00 and headed to the apartment to relax for a bit …

Featured Spaces: The Office

I love love love an organized workspace. It helps me to think and leaves my creative flow unhindered. I am not always the most organized individual, especially if you catch me right in the middle of a creative explosion or after a stressful work week. During the in-between moments however, I like to keep my workspace crisp, neat and inspiring. I don’t have a desk in my apartment so I use my desk at work as my creative canvas.  So, how do I  keep my desk clutter free, inspiring and functional all at the same time? It’s actually not as hard as you’d think. Many people assume you need to sacrifice aesthetics for function and vice versa, but thats not the case. They can go hand in hand and do so beautifully.   I’m not one for named themes so you’ll never find me with a nautical styled bathroom or a cupcake themed kitchen. What you may find however is that I  do like to follow a color scheme. It makes my eyes happy. My …

Musical Musings

Music is my love language. It really is. My earliest memories are bookmarked by songs my father played up the stairs from his old school stereo to wake my brother and I up on Saturday mornings and music that filled my home on Sundays as my mom cleaned the house from top to bottom. The hazy memories that float around in my subconscious are made clear at the sound of a familiar melody, reassuring me of things that once were. When I meet a person who doesn’t play music in the car, or in their home, or even  someone who doesn’t sing to their children or encourage them to express their joy through dance I am genuinely startled, because for me, music is my second language. At the moment, Spotify is my best companion. I love the way it stores my music, suggests playlists and genres and I especially adore the weekly collection of new music it presents me with at the beginning of each week like clockwork. This makes it easy for a sometimes …

How to “Treat Yo Self” when you can’t afford to “Treat Yo Self”

We live in such a fast paced world. There are so many tasks and responsibilities that all need to be taken care of by a certain time and sometimes, we run out of just that. Time. To avoid missing out on the crucial things, we prioritize what needs to be done when. It can be a bit chaotic. I live off of lists. I haven’t always been this way, but thanks to my own personal collection of due dates, appointments, social commitments and everything else, I have found that this just might be the best way to do it. Yes mom, you were right. There is definitly a benefit to a list. It keeps you organized and accountable and shows you just how busy you are. If I take a quick look back at the list I have set up for this past week alone I can visually understand why I feel like I’m made of static electricity right now. I’ve had events to plan, things to order, people to contact and contact again, schedules …

10 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Hey friends! It’s the weekend, woo! Finally. This weekend is particularly strange for me as it’s the first time in a long time that I get to break the pattern of my usual weekend activities (working) and exchange it for fun (we’re gonna pretend I didn’t bring my laptop with me with the intention of stalking my job all weekend). It’s bachelorette party weekend in my friend group and we are in the city enjoying the sights and each other’s company.   Not working on a weekend for me is actually a big deal. Not only because I am always and I mean always doing it. But mainly because I’m a recovering control freak…I really like to be in control of my environments and work is an environment that is labeled as mine therefore I need to be in total control of it at all times. Pro tip: wanting to be in control of an environment 24/7 doesn’t mean that you will actually be in control of that environment ever. Needless to say, this weekend …
