Today is Sunday.
Sundays for me are restful days of relaxation and reset. But how does one do relaxation and reset in the same space they’ve been “relaxing and resetting” in all week?
Note: I know we haven’t all been relaxing…for a lot of us it’s actually been harder BUT for creative freedom and the fact that we’re home bound…I’m calling it that…don’t hate me.
Well, I can’t tell you what to do, but what I will do is tell you what I’m doing today and hope that helps you navigate how to still have a restful reset day that differentiates from the other days. Let’s go!
First thing I’m doing is not creating
Today I’m not creating. Today I’m not filming. Today I’m not taking photos. Today (besides this) I’m not writing with intent to post. I’ve been filming all week for my first ever daily vlog series (find it here) and although I’ve actually had so much fun doing it, it is WORK. And work needs a break. What a better day to take a breather than the Sabbath right? Sounds, good to me. Instead I will get up nice and slow and spend some time getting my focus for the day (for me that means journaling and spending some time in my bible).
What I will do is plan
Ideas are constantly flowing in and out of my head. I have countless drafts and sticky notes and iPhone notes of ideas for videos, blogs and TikToks to make. Today is the day I sit down and actually think about them and plan them out into something kind of organized. I have actually made a video of my creative organization process here. I don’t get too crazy with it, but for me this is a way to kind of cleanse my brain, therefore I find it relaxing. I will also take this time to think about the week ahead, and make a note of anything important coming up, birthdays, appointments, projects and whatever else.
I Will Also Clean/Get Organized
Cleansing my brain is important yes, but so isn’t cleaning up the space I live in. Anyone else noticing that it’s harder to keep a space clean if you’re always in it? No, just me? Oh…okay. Well, todays the day for laundry; clothes sheets, pillow cases and all of that. It’s also the day for deep cleaning the bathroom and the kitchen, for sweeping rooms and mopping floors. My favorite home cleaning products are from the Seventh Generation line. Not only do they smell good but they’re better for your health than the majority of the other cleaning products out there.
Side Bar for a sec. Lately I’ve become super aware of the chemicals that are in EVERYTHING we use. It’s actually horrifying to think I’ve gone 10+ years of my life absorbing aluminum through my armpits from deodorant and then I’ll wonder why my body isn’t working right. BECAUSE YOU POISONED IT SIS. Anyway…I recently downloaded the ThinkDirty app. It was a life changer for me. To simply be able to scan a barcode and see what’s harmful or helpful in a product. Genius.
Finally, I Will Breathe
Once the necessary things are done I sit and enjoy my clean home and my decluttered mind. At this point I will usually do something totally pointless that I will simply enjoy like watching tv, reading a book or playing a game. I’m really into the show The Circle at the moment, it’s good, but man I hate how invested I am. If it’s not Netflix, then it’s the Wii. Currently I’m replaying Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. I was playing Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess but I was playing it with Kev (my boyfriend) and I don’t want to play it alone (its kinda scary), so we will resume when quarantine is over. If not Zelda, I will play the Sims. Either way, I enjoy a little bit of something exciting & harmless to get my mind in a different space.
That pretty much sums up my Sunday reset. It’s important to have a day (or two) where you are able to simply relax. The hustle culture we are surrounded by is kind of a myth friends. Maybe it works for some, but it won’t work for most. Most people, myself included will totally burn out and become exhausted from the very thing they used to enjoy. Let’s release ourselves from the pressure that we have to be doing something productive at every moment of every day. It’s more than okay to just do nothing for a moment. I promise!
With all of that, I hope you guys are able to kick back and relax a little today, you’ve earned it.
‘Till next time, your friend,
Nicole Eva
